NEGLECTED public asset – Sakubva Swimming Pool – is set to undergo a major facelift after the facility had been left to denigrate owing to years of lack of maintenance.
Addressing councillors, management and the media during the 1 326th full council meeting held today in the Council Chamber at Mutare Civic Centre, mayor, Councillor Simon Chabuka questioned the progress made on the renovations of the swimming pool.
Said Councillor Chabuka: “Acting Town Clerk, where are we on Sakubva Swimming Pool? It is now an eyesore, and I think something needs to be done as a matter of urgency.”

In his response, acting Town Clerk, Mr Takunda Nyamandi, who is also the local authority’s Chamber Secretary, said: “We have secured a contractor. Masvingo-based Junior Marima Construction is doing the work. I think they are now at the stage of mobilising the required resources in order to start works on the facility.”
The pool had been left in a derelict state and in view of rampant drug abuse owing to youths’ idleness, its urgent renovation might play a major role in providing a healthy pastime activity for youths in Sakubva and other suburbs
