DARING robbers last night broke into Rusape Town Council Civic Centre and ransacked all offices before blowing safes and took an undisclosed amount of cash.
To cover their tracks, the robbers also went away with the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) servers and monitors.
Operations at the civic centre were this morning halted to allow detectives to carryout investigations and wait for explosive experts from Harare.
Rusape Town Council spokesperson, Mr Lloyd Makumana confirmed the break in and said they are likely to remain closed for business today.
When the premises was visited, entrance to the civic centre was locked.
“There was a break in at the head offices last night. All offices were breached and the safe at the revenue hall was blown. We are not sure how much was stolen from there. The CCTV system was also stolen. Police are now on the scene, carrying out intensive investigations. We are not sure if we will open today,” said Mr Makumana.
A source at the council said they do their daily banking at 4pm daily, and money receipted between 4pm and 4.30pm is kept in the safe overnight.
